Shared Silence

Separated only by the frame of a window, two figures occupy the same space without sharing the same gaze. She looks toward an unseen horizon; he turns his attention to the glow of a screen. Nothing remarkable seems to happen between them. And yet, everything does.

Photographed in Havana in 2021, this image transforms an ordinary moment into a reflection on presence, intimacy, and the many ways we coexist with one another. Rather than speaking of distance, it speaks of coexistence—of those silences that do not weaken human bonds, but quietly become part of them.

The photograph offers no certainties. Instead, it leaves us with a question that reaches beyond its protagonists: how well do we truly know those who are closest to us?
